The purpose of this study is to verify the mediated effects of self-esteem on the relationship between the gender role perception and the family life satisfaction of both husband and wife, considering the actor effect and partner effect of each variable from dyadic data. For this purpose, we applied the APIMeM model for analysis using the Korea Welfare Panel¡¯s 13th wave dataset of 3,294 couples. According to the results, the husband¡¯s self-esteem tended to increase as his perception of gender roles became more flexible, but his gender awareness had no significant effect on wife¡¯s self-esteem. When it comes to wife, the effects of both actors and partners on the relationship between gender awareness and self-esteem was significant. The more flexible the wife's perception of gender role, the higher the family life satisfaction level of both the husband¡¯s and wife¡¯s. However, it was found that there were no significant mediated effect of wife¡¯s self-esteem between the husband¡¯s perception of gender roles and family life satisfaction for both because the husband¡¯s perception of gender roles did not have a statistically significant effect on wife's self-esteem.
